Regardless of what has unfolded this year regarding the pandemic, home sales are still going strong. As the real estate market has continued to thrive, the things that buyers are looking for have slightly changed. While there are some essentials that buyers wish to have, some are beginning to value other items as a result of pandemic life. Here are some of these desired items so you can upgrade your home if you are looking to sell soon.

Home office space

Even beyond the pandemic the trend to do work from home will more than likely be more andmore common and could even mean remote work for kids on snow days too! With this notion having some designated working space at home is helpful. Try adding desk space to a guest room or in one of your home’s nooks or corners. There are desks of all shapes and sizes where you can get creative.

Outdoor space

With more time spent at home buyers are looking to enhance their square footage. Thisincludes fully utilizing outdoor spaces for enjoyment and extending usage during the shoulder seasons. Take a look at your outdoor space for both aesthetics and function. There are some nice area rugs these days that can help define a gathering space while a low cost outdoor heater can help during shoulder seasons. If space permits the addition of a fire pit could also provide options during the colder months.

Separate spaces

Most everyone loves an open floor plan, but being able to separate areas is still important. Barn doors or room dividers can be quick and easy solutions to give your home’s occupants some privacy.

Home gym

Maintaining your physical health is important so having a place to exercise is key. Guest rooms, sitting rooms or even partially finished basements can be great ideas. However, if your home is tight on space you can even use a portion of a room. Fold up stationary bikes, yoga mats or other workout equipment can be neatly stowed for your home gym. Display to buyers that you have this option and help them visualize how they can use the space.

Guest room

Showcasing your guest room or additional living spaces can be a desired option for buyers these days. With multigenerational households or those looking to fetch some additional rental income from a roommate, this will show them that there is some room for options.
